Chicago Manual of Style
As a writer, you should be aware of the Chicago Manual of Style. It’s a big book with lots of crucial info. It’s the style guide most books are based on–though authors can certainly adjust to their liking. But it gives you a great building block and level of understanding as far as what your editor will be looking for. If nothing else, it’s at least good to know it exists.
You can either buy the book or buy CMOS site access (of which you can get a free trial).

The CMOS site is also a great resource for suggested guides on writing. Check out its bookstore for options to research.

You can find the main page here, but it’s often easier to find exactly what you’re looking for by doing a general web search first; but when you see a link to “Grammar Girl,” go with that one versus others that may pop up. There’s also a podcast if you want to broaden your grammar education that way.
